On Saturday, 4 December 2021. the film crew of the Center for Cultural Activities and 4 films took part in the filming of the feature-length documentary Being related to John Malkovich, directed by director and screenwriter Luka Mavretić and screenwriter Valentina Mavretić.
The project manager Paulina Križić and the president of the CKD association Matko Štambuk participated in the filming. The Center for Cultural Activities is a co-producer of the production of 4 films on this project. Filming took place during the day, and we accompanied the arrival of the famous Hollywood actor John Malkovich to the Lisinski Hall, where an event called John Malkovich – The Music Critic, written and conceived by Aleksey Igudesman took place.
Being related to John Malkovich is a documentary film about a young screenwriter and poet who has been obsessed with film art since early childhood, it serves him as an escape from reality and bad family relationships.
Encouraged by his grandfather’s stories from the past, he begins an investigation into the family myth of his relation with John Malkovich.
The film has already participated in several well-known documentary film markets such as ZagrebDox Pro 2021 where it won the HBO award for development, then it was invited to DocLisboa 2021 in Lisbon, Portugal and Bio to B 2021 as part of the Biografilm festival in Bologna, Italy. Also, the project is already supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Center, the Ministry of Italy, the Friuli Venezia Gulia Fund, the City of Zagreb, the City of Rijeka, Karlovac County and the RE-ACT Fund, as well as by the Italian co-production TESLA Production and the Open Media Group.
